What The Hull

The questions that each oarsman asks himself is "What is the right boat for my rivers?". This overview will help answer that question for our owners.

We have developed three unique and equally capable hull profiles at Boulder Boat Works all specifically designed to tackle unique on water scenarios and fishing programs.

The Low Side Dory

The Low Side Dory is frequently called the sports car of our fleet due to its quick maneuverability and ease of navigation. It features the same pronounced rocker and pointed bow as our High Side dory, but with a weight-forward design that creates superior handling and quick pivoting characteristics. This hull is the agile performer, designed for the experienced pilot who demands control and precision.

  • Primary Water

Medium-to-large rivers that require quick navigation through features like rock gardens, side channels, and quick-pivot read-and-run scenarios. Throw some persistent wind in for good measure a d you’ll be happy to have the Low Side.

  • Maneuverability

Its design excels in quick navigation through technical sections, making it highly effective for rapidly adjusting to currents or dodging obstacles.

  • Superior Sightlines

The 25” inch bow is significantly lower than the High Side, providing the oarsman with much clearer sight lines to read the water ahead. This, combined with its quick pivot, allows the Low Side to excel in "read and run" situations.

  • Casting Advantage

The reduced freeboard minimizes wind resistance and puts the angler closer to the water, facilitating easy line management and low-effort casting over the gunwale.

  • Low Side Dimensions

    Length: 186”

    Centerline (bottom): 166”

    Bottom Width at Oarlocks: 52”

    Beam @ Oarlocks: 74”

    Oarlock Height: 25”

    Bow Height: 25”

    Stern Height: 22”

  • Performance Focus

Excellent for anglers who prioritize an unobstructed casting experience and oarsmen who need instant responsiveness and better sightlines for precision rowing.

  • The Legacy

The Low Side Legacy is engineered for the discerning angler who demands a lower profile for easier casting and minimal wind resistance without compromising traditional dory aesthetics of our flagship model.
